What the BC knowledge test looks like
These are our plain-language summaries, not official statements. Requirements can change; confirm current details with ICBC before you book.
- Questions: ICBC currently describes 50 multiple-choice questions
- Time: ICBC currently allows 45 minutes
- Pass mark: ICBC currently requires 40/50 correct (up to 10 mistakes)
- Skip & return: You can skip a difficult question; ICBC says skipped questions are shown again later.
- Minimum age: ICBC currently sets 16 for a Class 7L learner's licence

- Book your appointment: Schedule your knowledge test (and vision test) with ICBC when your scores are consistently strong.
- Bring your required ID: Arrive early and bring the documents ICBC asks for your licence class and residency.
- Pass the knowledge test: Read carefully and use skip when needed; skipped questions return later.
- Complete the vision test: A quick check to confirm you meet ICBC vision standards.
- Get your learner’s licence: Start supervised driving and continue learning toward the next stage.
