Alberta’s learner (Class 7) knowledge test checks whether you understand Alberta traffic laws, road signs, and safe-driving rules. You take it at a registry agent office.
- 30 multiple-choice questions
- Pass mark: at least 25 correct
- Retakes: allowed, but only once per day (fee applies each time)
Your best “source of truth” is the official guide: Alberta Driver’s Guide (Government of Alberta) . If you want the official rules about the test itself, see: Driver’s knowledge test (Government of Alberta) .
Use this when you don’t know where to start:
- Step 1: Read the Driver’s Guide once for understanding (don’t memorize yet).
- Step 2: Do practice tests early (even if you score low) to find your weak spots fast.
- Step 3: Review mistakes by topic, then go back to the matching guide section and re-learn it.
- Step 4: Repeat until you’re consistently scoring high (aim well above the pass mark), then book your test.
After each set, write down the rule behind every mistake (one line each). When you re-test, you’re checking whether you learned the rule—not whether you remember the question. You can jump straight to our practice sets here: Alberta Practice Tests.
Common knowledge-test “traps” learners miss- Rushing: missing words like must, only, unless, or when safe.
- Mixing up sign families (warning vs regulatory vs information signs).
- Right-of-way confusion at uncontrolled intersections and turns.
- Forgetting that conditions matter (weather, visibility, road type).

- Sleep well and arrive early so you’re not rushed.
- Read every question twice before answering (most mistakes are “misread,” not “don’t know”).
- If two answers look right, choose the one that best matches the Driver’s Guide wording and safest-driving principle.
- If you don’t pass, review your weak topics and try again another day (remember: once per day).
